University Football League: KIU’s Akabwai credits offensive strategy for victory over Kumi
Kampala International University (KIU) secured their inaugural win of the University Football League season, defeating Kumi University 2-0 on Saturday in Kansanga.
Goals from Ssempijja Henry and Wasswa Abdu, one in each half, propelled the Kansanga-based team to their first goals and three points in Group D.
Following the victory, Geoffrey Akabwai expressed his satisfaction that his team adhered to the game plan that led to their success.
“I am pleased with our first win of the season, we made efforts to rectify our previous mistakes, seizing the perfect opportunity to do so,” Akabwai conveyed to the media.
“A collective team effort was pivotal, and for the past two weeks, our training focused on becoming a formidable offensive force, resulting in two goals.”
Akabwai added: “Our disappointment in the previous game against Busitema motivated us to come prepared for this match, and that’s how we secured the win.”
The victory elevates KIU to three points, putting them on par with Busitema University as they prepare for a doubleheader against title contenders Uganda Christian University.
Meanwhile, Kumi University will also enter their upcoming fixtures with hopes of securing their first win, facing Busitema University in the doubleheader.
