Signed on deadline day from Getafe, Uche was introduced in the 84th minute of Palace’s goalless draw against Sunderland, replacing Yéremy Pino.

Despite limited time and only two training sessions with his new teammates after returning from World Cup qualifying duty in South Africa, Uche immediately made an impact.

He nearly scored when his shot was expertly saved by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs at the back post.

After his time with the Super Eagles, Christantus Uche shines for Crystal Palace in his first training session.

Moments later, Uche went down under a challenge inside the penalty box, prompting loud appeals from Palace players and supporters.

After a VAR review, referee Thomas Bramall waved play on, a decision that visibly frustrated Uche and left Selhurst Park stunned.

Uche’s brief but lively cameo included completing 71% of his passes, registering one shot on target, and making a recovery.

He later told the club’s media that the warm reception from the fans was a key motivation. “The fans are good, once I entered, they were hailing ‘Uche, Uche’. That’s what motivated me more because I play with fans, I play with everybody. Once the fans trust in me, I will give everything-100%.”

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was visibly upset after the draw, particularly about the disallowed penalty.

Speaking to the BBC via Pulse Sports, Glasner said, “The VAR must have told the referee that the Sunderland player didn’t touch him, but for me, when I see the pictures, it looks like he touches him,” insisting Uche was denied a clear penalty.
