Tusker Forward Erick Kapaito Sends Gor Mahia Stellar Warning Ahead of 100th League Clash
Tusker forward Erick Kapaito has explained why he is unfazed by the threat of high-flying Gor Mahia before both sides take each other on in a league fixture set to take place at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Kapaito has been in fine form since rejoining the Brewers at the start of the season to replace Ryan Ogam, who departed for Austria following a stellar lone season with the club and then a strong display for Harambee Stars at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Both sides are set to take each other on for the 100th time in the league, with Gor Mahia looking to build on from their solid momentum in the race for this season’s SportPesa League title.
Speaking from the side’s training base at the Ruaraka Sports Complex on Friday morning, Kapaito, who has previously won the FKF Premier League player of the year on two occasions, reveled in the positive preparations in build up to the historic weekend fixture.
“We are ready for it. It will be a good and tough game but we have been working throughout the game and everyone is motivated. We will be ready,” Kapaito said.
Kapaito, who has represented Harambee Stars on one occasion before, explained how much a win would mean for the 12-time league champions, who sit seventh in the league standings, four points behind K’Ogalo.
We Must Be Humble - Kapaito
“We have to win to climb up the ladder. They have been playing well, but we are up to the task.”
Asked whether he was worried by the prospect of failing to find the back of the net against Gor Mahia, a calm but confident Kapaito expressed adamance he stood every chance to find the back of the net.
“The team comes first, but when I score, the team wins. I have to score for the team first and then the golden boot will follow.”Kapaito added that discipline and teamwork would be crucial against a well-drilled Gor Mahia side.
“We have to be calm and humble and perform on the pitch. If I do that, I believe I will score.”
“It is a collective effort. I have to score, and I also have to help the team defend. It motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing, and I have to train hard to perform well.”
Tusker will be hoping Kapaito delivers once again as they attempt to halt Gor Mahia’s momentum—and mark the 100th clash between the two giants with a statement victory.
