By their standards, Pep Guardiola’s men finishing third in the Premier League, exiting early in the Champions League, losing the FA Cup final and failing to pull up trees in the EFL Cup was disappointing, and they are moving swiftly to rectify their underwhelming year.

The Manchester giants have agreed a big-money deal with AC Milan for the transfer of Tijjani Reijnders, with the Dutch midfielder set for a move in the region of €75m.

Man City agree Reijnders deal

No sooner had that news broke on Wednesday than another possible acquisition did the rounds.

Man City near Cherki agreement

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Cityzens are close to working out a deal with Lyon, having shaken hands with Rayan Cherki on personal terms.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder was involved in 19 goals for the Ligue 1 side in the concluded season, scoring eight times and assisting 11 for the club that ended sixth.

Cherki's future in France has been up in the air, and the Lyon academy product, who fashioned 22 clear-cup chances in Ligue 1 last term, could depart after six seasons in the first team.

With Kevin De Bruyne departing and the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva uncertain, Man City are seemingly keen to lower the average age and maintain a baseline level of quality in their midfield.

What’s next for Man City?

Guardiola's men begin their Club World Cup campaign against Wydad on June 18 before facing Al Ain and Juventus.
