The 44-year-old became the club's number-one target after moves for Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi and Luis Enrique became impractical.

Slot says no to Tottenham

Slot, who won the Eredivisie title with Feyenoord this season, will remain with the Dutch side and not make the switch to north London. He said to AD:

“I am grateful for all the interest, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord and continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.

“There are no transfer talks going on and there have been none and yesterday’s discussion was solely about a possible extension. All conversations with Feyenoord are only aimed at that.

“I look forward to the new season at Feyenoord.”

What next for Spurs?

Spurs will now look to pursue other candidates but must do so quickly as the future of Harry Kane could be tied to the club's managerial plans for the future.
