Tobi Amusan and Nia Ali rekindle their rivalry at Drake Relays
Nigeria's Tobi Amusan will face Nia Ali in a hurdles race again, this time gunning for revenge at the Drake Relays this weekend.
The reigning World 100mH Champion succumbed to defeat to the former world champion in their first match-up of the season at the Tom Jones Invitational, as Ali sped to victory in a Season's Best (SB) of 12.53s against Amusan's 12.59s, also an SB.
Now set up to run against each other again, the Nigerian will be aiming for a win for a balanced equation between both hurdlers this season.
However, both athletes have strong oppositions in the stacked list who are tough challengers for victory.
Tia Jones has an SB of 12.66s clocked last week, Devynne Charlton was third in their Tom Jones race in 12.64s, Danielle Williams has an SB of 12.77s, and Alaysha Johnson a lifetime best of 12.35s.
Amusan became the World Champion and Record holder at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, blazing to a jaw-dropping time of 12.12s and then 12.06s in the final.
In so doing, she became Nigeria's first outdoor world champion and World Record holder in athletics. The spotlight will be on her through the season in her quest to successfully defend her title in Budapest.
