They Just Never Learn! USA Disqualified from World Relays Event After Botched Baton Exchange
For a second straight major event, Team USA was disqualified from a relay event following a poor baton exchange.
The Americans were lining up in the heats of the 4x100m mixed relays at the World Relays Championships in Guangzhou, China on Saturday.
However, a mix-up in the baton exchange between Jada Mowatt and Kendal Williams saw them botch it and as a consequence, they got disqualified from the event, missing out on a top two that would have earned them a direct ticket to the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

It was another embarrassing situation involving an American team following their poor baton exchange in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At the time, a poor exchange between Christian Coleman and Kenny Bednarek left them red faced and the consequence was disqualification, having missed out on a medal and in Paris, it reared its ugly head once again this time in the Chinese city.
In Guangzhou, there was a mix-up when Mowatt and Williams attempted to exchange the baton but dropped it instead and ended up missing out on a place in the final.
