Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has reportedly been attracting the interest of Egyptian giants Al Ahly but the player’s agent does not think a move will happen.

Mokoena is reported to have been put on Al Ahly’s wish list in the wake of Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng’s contract situation where it is reported that his future is uncertain as he enters in the final six months of his deal.

The Cairo Red Devils will therefore be forced into the market for midfield reinforcements and the name of Mokoena has featured prominently.

However, the midfielder’s agent has seemed to pour cold water on the reports, all but ending the speculation after saying he does not believe the player will move away from Sundowns for two main reasons.

Why Is Mokoena at Sundowns to Stay?

“The only people contacting me for Mokoena-Al Ahly are Egyptian journalists,” SoccerBeat’s Peter du Toit said while reading a message sent to him Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin.

“Every single window there is speculation about Mokoena and Al Ahly but I don’t believe that Sundowns will sell him to their biggest competitor on the continent and Al Ahly would pay the transfer fee that a team like Sundowns would want.”

Sundowns and Al Ahly are big competitors in Africa who contest for the CAF Champions League every season and it is believed the Brazilians would not sell one of their most important players to a direct rival.

Further, Mokoena, who has been at Sundowns since 2022, signed a new deal last year, extending his stay at the Pretoria-based club up to 2029, and pricing him away would take a massive offer which Al Ahly will likely bulk away from.
