Super Eagles qualifying for World Cup is important for Africa — Didier Drogba
Former Cote d'Ivoire striker Didier Drogba said that Africa will benefit from the Super Eagles qualifying for the World Cup.
The 43-year-old Chelsea legend spoke glowingly about the Nigerian national team in a recent interview, refusing to accept that they have fallen from grace.
In the same interview, he discussed Nigeria's World Cup chances and noted that the continent will be better represented at the tournament with the Super Eagles in attendance.
What Drogba said
Nigeria failed to clinch automatic qualification for the World Cup due to a poor start to the qualifying series. However, they managed to salvage a playoff slot.
The playoffs are set to be tough and complicated, but Drogba believes the Super Eagles possess the qualities to triumph. More importantly, he sees Nigeria as an ideal ambassador of African football.
“It would be nice if they qualify because to have Nigeria in a World Cup is very important for Africa,” he said. “But if they don’t qualify, the team that would be representing us, we will be proud to support.”
