Super Eagles icon Jay Jay Okocha hails Victor Osimhen, advises him to maintain hunger

Nigerian football legend, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, recently extended his heartfelt encouragement and advice to SSC Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen.

Jay Jay Okocha has applauded Osimhen’s remarkable achievements, particularly his outstanding performance with Serie A champions, Napoli, last season.

The 26-year-old sensation emerged as the hero of the previous season, ultimately ending Napoli’s 33-year-long drought to become Italian Championship once again.

Osimhen’s excellent prowess led to 26 goals, securing him the top scorer award and propelling Napoli to their first Serie A victory in more than three decades.

This extraordinary feat etched his name in history as the first African player ever to be crowned Serie A’s best striker in its 125-year history.

In addition to his domestic triumphs, Osimhen played a pivotal role in Napoli’s historic journey to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, marking a momentous milestone for the club as they reached the last eight for the first time.

With the new season underway, the Nigeria Super Eagles star has continued to shine, already netting three goals in his first four appearances in the league for the 2023/2024 campaign.

During an interview with Arise TV, Jay Jay Okocha, a legendary figure in Nigerian football, showered Osimhen with praise, acknowledging his exceptional achievements.

Okocha emphasised the importance of Osimhen maintaining his hunger, staying grounded, and not letting success go into his head.

“He has done extremely well,” Okocha stated. “In my opinion, he should maintain that hunger, stay humble, don’t get carried away.”

“And most importantly, (he should) maintain that discipline,” he added.
