St Mary's Kitende wins Zonal championship after thrilling encounter with Light High
Uganda Senior Secondary Schools Association (USSSA) champions St Marys School Kitende (SMASK) clinched the Kitende Zonal Championship at the expense of Light High Secondary School.
SMASK edged Light High 1-0 in the final in a hugely contested affair played at the St Mary's Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.
Vipers Junior Team youngster Arafat Nkoola netted the sole goal late in the tie for SMASK against a resilient Light High team.
Steven Yiga and Reagan Isabirye had SMASK's best chances but could not tuck them away.
That was before Nkoola poked home a sweet delivery from Olimi Nyarwa at the death, to send the deafening home crowd in a frenzy.
Before the goal, earlier in the second half, Light High's Derrick Malinga had forced goalkeeper Denis Mugerwa into a fine save.
SMASK will now hope to carry similar enthusiasm and performances in the Wakiso Regional qualifiers, before the national and East African championships.
