Son of ex-Super Eagles star primed for Champions League debut against Bayern Munich
Club Brugge’s teenage forward Kaye Furo, son of former Super Eagles defender Iyenemi Furo, is set for a potential Champions League debut when the Belgian side take on Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
The 18-year-old has been included in Brugge’s 24-man travelling squad for the high-stakes European clash.
Rising star Kaye Furo earns call-up for Bayern test
Kaye Furo’s inclusion marks a proud moment for Nigerian football fans and his family alike. The young attacker, who impressed during Brugge’s Champions League qualifying campaign, made his senior debut earlier this season in the 6–0 rout of Rangers, featuring for 22 minutes and showing flashes of promise.
While he has yet to feature in the group stage proper, his call-up against Bayern Munich signals growing confidence in his potential by manager Nicky Hayen.
Furo will be looking to follow in his father’s footsteps, Iyenemi Furo, a former Super Eagles centre-back who represented Nigeria at the 2000 African Cup of Nations.
The teenager’s development within one of Belgium’s most competitive squads has been closely monitored, and facing Bayern could mark a defining step in his young career.
Onyedika’s injury hands Furo a window of opportunity
Meanwhile, Club Brugge will be without Raphael Onyedika, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained during the 5–5 draw with Westerlo on September 24.
The 24-year-old Nigerian midfielder has missed four games across all competitions but has recently resumed light training.
Coach Nicky Hayen hinted that Onyedika could return by mid-November, possibly in time for Brugge’s next Champions League outing against Barcelona on November 5.
For Onyedika, the focus will be on regaining full fitness before Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff qualifiers, where the Super Eagles are set to face Gabon, as well as either DR Congo, or Cameroon.
