Rooney’s top target is Napoli’s prolific striker Victor Osimhen, whom he described as “a number 9, a very good striker and possibly available.”
The 26-year-old Nigerian has been a standout player on loan at Galatasaray, known for his lethal finishing, physicality, and ability to lead the line.
With speculation surrounding Osimhen’s future, Rooney believes the Super Eagles star could be the answer to United’s need for a reliable goalscorer.
The former United captain also called for the return of David De Gea, who left the club in 2023 after 12 years.
“I will probably sign David De Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him, and he can still do a very good job,” Rooney said.
De Gea, now 34, has impressed in the Serie A with Fiorentina, who he joined after a year’s absence, and Rooney sees the Spaniard’s experience as vital to stabilising United’s defence.
Rounding out his wishlist, Rooney named Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, praising the young centre-back’s potential impact.
“It would be difficult, but I’d probably sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. I think he’d have a really good impact at the club,” he added.
Guehi’s composure and defensive nous have made him a rising star in the Premier League, with the 24-year-old playing a key role in their FA Cup win.
Rooney’s comments have led to interesting comments among United fans on X, with many debating the feasibility of his bold selections.
But as Manchester United look to end a challenging season on a high under Ruben Amorim, Rooney’s wishlist offers a glimpse into the kind of ambition he believes could restore the club’s glory.
