Rodah Tanui reigns supreme at Gold Coast Marathon

Rodah Tanui showcased her incredible talent and determination on Sunday, July 2, as she dominated a formidable field to claim the highly coveted Gold Coast Marathon women's title.

Tanui, the reigning Copenhagen Marathon champion clocked 2:27:10 to cross the finish line ahead of compatriot Ruth Chebitok who timed 2:28:15. Australia’s Genevieve Gregson who was debuting completed the podium after clocking 2:28:32.

Tanui stayed with the leading pack for the better of the race until the last few km where she opened a wide gap between the lead group and herself.

She looked comfortable and ready for the title contention and as she made her final turn with the finish line in sight, she unleashed a finishing kick to cut the tape in style.

In the men’s race, Japan’s Naoki stunned the masses to take top honours in the highly contested race.

He cut the tape in a new course record time of 2:07:39 ahead of Kenya’s Ezekiel Omullo who clocked 2:08:26 (Personal Best time). Australia’s Liam Adams finished third in 2:08:39.
