The former Commonwealth Games champion hung up her spikes in 2018 but has admitted she had some of the most memorable moments on the track, particularly with the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt.

Montell Douglas on Celebrating with Usain Bolt

In 2008, after setting a new British record of 11.05 seconds in the 100 metres, Montell Douglas headed to the Beijing Olympics.

There, she competed in the 100m and helped the 4x100m relay team reach the final. Her impressive performance on the track earned her an invitation to a very special celebration.

Following the Games, the London-born sprinter found herself at the 22nd birthday party of the fastest man in history, Usain Bolt.

"A really cool time was partying with Usain Bolt at his 22nd birthday party," Douglas recalled in an exclusive interview with Sporf.

"We were at the Olympic Games together. We were the same age and at our first Olympic Games. He’d just won the treble and become a history maker. It was an epic moment for everyone who watched it and everyone who was there."

She added, "To be a part of that celebration is something I’ll never forget. He wasn’t the superstar Bolt that we know now because he’d just started out. To see how far he went, doing it three times over, is just incredible."

Montell Douglas: A "Steep Learning Curve" From the Track to Ice

A decade after her summer debut, Montell Douglas made history again by competing for Team GB in the bobsleigh at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. The transition from sprinting to what she calls "Formula 1 on ice" was a daunting one.

Reflecting on her first time in a bobsleigh, Montell Douglas remembered asking her coach a crucial question. "I went down for the first time, stood at the top of the mountain, and asked my coach, ‘Can I die?’ He said, ‘Meh,’ and that was enough for me," she said.

"I went down and wasn’t sure that I loved it, but I did it again, because you have to do it twice, and I thought, ‘This is pretty cool’. You’re going down ice mountains; it’s a mile long... You need incredible resilience. You have to be mentally tough or crazy to do it."

Now working as a pundit, Montell Douglas is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Games and expects strong performances from Team GB, tipping skeleton world champion Matt Weston for a gold medal.

Montell Douglas, who also features on the TV show Gladiators, noted the versatility of many British athletes and even picked a former teammate she'd want by her side on the show.

"I would go with Adele Nicoll," she laughed. "She’s made history in the first-ever female monobob for Team GB, she’s my old teammate... She’s an absolute beast, so strong, powerful, smart, and all about girl power. I need her on my team."
