Report: Tinubu's sports chair instructs NFF to pay Super Falcons WAFCON winning before taking their share
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Alhaji Shehu Dikko, has reportedly instructed the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to pay the Super Falcons their share of the WAFCON prize money before the federation does any other thing with the money.
Pay the girls — Dikko
The apparent neglect of the Super Falcons by the federation has been a source of concern for many, exacerbated by the allegations of monies owed to the girls.
Osasu Obayiuwana reported that Dikko, who chairs the NSC, has inserted himself into the situation, instructing the Ibrahim Gusau-led federation to pay the girls before taking their share of the WAFCON earnings.
The Super Falcons thumped Zambia 5-0 to advance to the semi-final of the competition, which means that they are already guaranteed a minimum prize money of $300,000. They will get $350k for 3rd, $500k for 2nd, and $1 million if Mission X becomes a success.
According to the report, the players are entitled to 30% of whatever prize money they win from the competition.
Gusau on NFF debt to Super Falcons
Meanwhile, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has addressed allegations that claim the federation owes the Super Falcons players money dating back to 2021. While he admitted they owed the players some money, he said the reported value was exaggerated.
Speaking to Osasu Obayiuwana in Morocco, Gusau promised that he is in conversation with the Nigerian government to ensure that the matchday bonuses for the ongoing WAFCON are paid before the end of the tournament.
Addressing the current backlog of debt, he denied that they owed the players unpaid bonuses and allowances that stretch back to 2021, despite sources close to the situation alleging the contrary.
