What happened

The Reds were soundly beaten by their Northern rivals 3-0.  However, the scoreline, and consequently the result, could have gone another way, as Virgil Van Dijk found the back of the net with a header at a point when Liverpool were on the ascendancy.

The goal would have made the score 1-1. However, after a VAR check, the goal was chalked off because Andy Robertson was standing in an offside position and was deemed to have influenced play.

Liverpool’s complaint

Liverpool disagree with the decision, however, and according to the Guardian, they have contacted PGMO to file a complaint.

Liverpool reportedly said they do not accept the decision, as they believe it was subjective, and more importantly, disagreed that Robertson influenced Gianluigi Donnarumma’s ability to save the ball.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot also criticised the decision after the match. He argued that the goal should have stood and that the result could have been different had it done so.
