Report: How Real Madrid rejected Super Eagles' Osimhen as they only want Mbappe
LALIGA giants Real Madrid passed on the chance to sign Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen this summer despite starting the season with no recognised centre forward.
Osimhen was offered to the Los Blancos alongside Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic but the Spanish giants turned it down.
This much Pulse Sports can report according to Madrid Universal through Mundo Deportivo.
Osimhen to Real Madrid
Carlo Anceolotti’s side started the new campaign without a forward following the departure of club legend Karim Benzema.
Benzema left the club to join the revolution in Saudi Arabia after putting pen to paper with giants Al-Ittihad.
His departure left a hole in Real’s attack with Brazilian stars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo the only forwards at the club.
This vacancy at the striker’s position led to the club receiving calls from agents who offered their clients to the Los Blancos.
Per the report, Nigeria’s Osimhen and Vlahovic were two names that came up in Madrid.
However, while Osimhen is admired by Italian manager, Ancelotti, the boss and club would not be distracted from their plan to land Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe next summer.
Mbappe remains the ultimate prize for Los Blancos with the 24-year-old former World Cup winner a free agent next summer.
Ancelotti praises Osimhen
Meanwhile, in a related development, while Ancelotti and Real Madrid have every reason to wait to snap up Mbappe for free, the former AC Milan boss has glowing things to say about Osimhen.
Osimhen has proven to be reliable and one of the best in the World in his position after leading SSC Napoli to their first title in 33 years.
The Nigeria international, who netted 26 goals to finish as top scorer in the Serie A last season, has been described by the Real boss as one of the best in the world.
"Osimhen is one of the strongest strikers in Europe,” Ancelotti said as per Pulse Sports report.
“But honestly, we never thought about it (signing him. We decided to replace Benzema in another way with the arrival of Bellingham," he added.
