Chelsea have reportedly made a final decision to end their pursuit of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Blues were heavily linked with the France international before the initial summer transfer window closed on June 10, with Maignan reportedly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, no transfer materialised before Enzo Maresca’s side travelled for the Club World Cup.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have no intention of signing the 29-year-old for the 2025-26 campaign, having walked away from the potential deal after he was offered to them in the first transfer window.

Goalkeeper restructure planned

Instead, Chelsea’s focus for their goalkeeping department appears to be on offloading two of their current four shot-stoppers.

The club's present goalkeepers include Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders.

The Sky Sports report suggests that the Blues are expected to loan one goalkeeper to their sister club Strasbourg and seek a permanent deal for another.

Petrovic, who spent last season on loan at Strasbourg, is seen as a likely candidate for a permanent sale, while young Penders could benefit from a loan move to Strasbourg.

What’s next for Chelsea?

Chelsea play Esperance on Tuesday, needing a draw to avoid exiting the Club World Cup.
