Reactions as Manchester United qualify for Europa League quarter finals following win against Betis
Manchester United defeated Real Betis in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 stage on Thursday, March 16.
The Red Devils were hoping to finish up the job having cruised to an emphatic 4-1 victory at Old Trafford in the first-leg.
Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini was positive of his team's chances of overturning the three-goal deficit in the first leg having stated that the tie was “not over”.
Betis created some great chances in the first half and posed a serious threat.
But the hosts were unlucky not to have found an opener.
41-year-old Joaquín clipped the post with a speculative 25-yard strike, before Juanmi saw a goal-bound strike blocked by United captain Harry Maguire.
On the other end, Wout Weghorst, was unable to tuck home from a rebound after Pellistri mishit a strike.
The first half ended with neither team able to find the breakthrough with United still holding on firmly to their three-goal aggregate advantage.
Second Half
However, the deadlock would be broken in the second period, but it would not go in the way of the hosts despite putting up a fight.
Marcus Rashford unleashed a superb shot from from range into the far corner of the Betis net in the 55th minute to put the game beyond doubt and kill off any hope of a comeback.
United had more chances to add to their lead, but failed to ultimately with disappointing misses from Marcel Sabitzer and Jadon Sancho.
In the end, Erik ten Hag’s men sealed a 5-1 aggregate victory to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Betis on the other hand, bow out of European football, while their terrible home record stretches to four defeats from their last six matches.

30% of Osihmen’s goals this season being headers is crazy man, I’m just imagining the service Sancho, Bruno and potentially Antony could give him.
