When Lineker asked which United managers had influenced him most, Rashford mentioned Louis Van Gaal, Mourinho, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rashford explained what distinguished the three and revealed that it was Mourinho – who led the club between 2016 and 2018 – who surprised him most with his unique methods.

"Yes, they're different, but we've had so many different managers," Rashford said, referring to the 10 managers who have led the club since 2013.

"It's very difficult, it's impossible for me to compare the managers, but when you're young and still developing, you learn things that... nobody had ever taught you before. Until Mourinho, I'd never had a manager so obsessed with winning," he said, prompting Lineker to interject: "Van Gaal wasn't?"

Mourinho Took Over Man United

Rashford continued: "Van Gaal also wanted to win... but he wanted to win playing beautiful football. Jose doesn't care. You know? As long as you win... of course, if he had a choice, he'd want you to play well. But if you win, you win. And you move on to the next game."

The forward then explained how Mourinho's methods ended up being a positive change for him: "He had that attitude. At first, it was confusing for me because, throughout my development at United, the focus was on playing a certain way, winning a certain way.

"So, in the beginning, I was always angry – like, we didn't play well today, even though we won. But because we were winning, and he's a manager who just wants to win, he wouldn't mention the things you knew were lacking in the previous game – because we won.

"But when we lost, then he'd talk about it. But after about six months, I learned to respect that approach and started to reap the benefits of him as a coach."
