Premier League youngster who rattled Haaland nearing contract extension

Myles Lewis-Skelly is reportedly nearing the signing of a new long-term contract with Arsenal. 

The versatile player’s impending agreement will significantly increase the 18-year-old's current salary, positioning him among the highest-paid young players globally, a reflection of his rapid rise to prominence during the 2024-25 season. 

Manager Mikel Arteta, who shares a strong rapport with Lewis-Skelly, played a pivotal role in the contract negotiations. 

As reported by The Athletic, the deal was brokered by his mother, Marcia Lewis, acting as his representative.

Lewis-Skelly initially signed his first professional contract upon turning 17 in October 2023, adhering to Football Association rules that limit contract lengths for players under 18 to three years. 

The academy graduate broke into the first team in the 2024-25 season, making his senior debut in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City in September, despite never having played senior football previously. 

Primarily deployed as a left-back by Arteta, he became a regular fixture, making 39 appearances across all competitions as Arsenal reached the Champions League semi-finals. 

Lewis-Skelly's impressive form led to his first England call-up under Thomas Tuchel for the March World Cup qualifiers, where he scored on his debut against Latvia at Wembley Stadium, becoming the youngest player to achieve this feat.

Arsenal, who face Manchester United on the opening weekend of the 2025-26 Premier League season, return for pre-season training in July.
