Premier League: Super Eagles legends Okocha, Kanu and Mikel Obi make greatest Africa XI list
Nigerian legends Austine Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo and Jon Obi Mikel have been included in the Premier League Africa XI.
The trio was part of the team unveiled at a lavish ceremony to celebrate Premier League’s 30th anniversary hosted by SuperSport in Lagos.
Pulse Sports Nigeria was in attendance at the event held at the Eko Hotels and Suites on Thursday night.
Super Eagles trio make Africa XI
The Africa XI were picked from a list of 30 players who had distinguished themselves in the last 30 years in the Premier League.
After voting was done by fans in Africa and the world, three Nigerians were voted into the greatest XI to ever play in the famous league.
Former Arsenal forward Kanu finished 10th on the list with Mikel, from Arsenal’s city rivals Chelsea following closely at ninth.
Bolton hero and icon Okocha, who was so good they named him twice, was the highest ranked Nigerian on the list after he finished fifth.
Drogba rules
Meanwhile, at the top of the list was Chelsea hero Didier Drogba who was named as the greatest African to play in the Premier League.
As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, the now 45-year-old saw off competition from compatriot Yaya Toure, who finished second.
Mohamed Salah (third) and Sadio Mane (fourth) were the players ranked above Okocha on the list.
