Police were surprised by Young Elephants show, coach Mugerwa admits

A strong second-half performance saved Police FC an embarrassment as they came from a goal down to beat Young Elephants 2-1 in the betPawa FUFA Big League.

Former Uganda Premier League side Police FC felt the heat against newcomers Young Elephants in their opening game of the betPawa FUFA Big League on Monday, leaving it late to win 2-1.

The newbies had no notable character on their roster but stunned the experienced Cops with their organized game taking an early advantage in the 20th minute.

Police’s new coach Simon Mugerwa says that Young Elephants shocked them with their show that forced them to overhaul their game strategy.

“We were surprised by Young Elephants [performance], so we had to go back to the dressing room and talk to the players,” Mugerwa noted.

The Cops regrouped and scored two late goals through second-half substitutes Denis Kalanzi and James Obedi.

“We were possessing but lacked intensity, so we had to adjust our game plan,” he explains.

Mugerwa made three crucial substitutions pulling off Gadaffi Kacancu, Steven Kabuye and Isaac Ogwang for Tony Kiwalazi, Kalanzi and Obedi.
