Onen blames wingers for Buffaloes' loss against Hippos

Toyota Buffaloes’ Coach Charles Onen has blamed his wingers for failing to execute the team’s plan as they went down 38-17 to Hippos in the Nile Special Rugby Premiership in Jinja on Saturday.

Liam Walker had put the visitors in the driving seat shortly after kick-off but Denis Etwau, Jackson Opio and Andrew Odhiambo ensured the home side smiled to a 19-10 lead at half-time.

Douglas Musoke converted another try in the second half to cause panic in the Hippos bench who had lost four games but Tawfik Bagalana, Etwau and Odhiambo crossed the try line for a 38-17 win. Yasin Waiswa ably dealt with extras.

We started building up well from the start but a few errors with the wingers cost us,” Onen told Pulse Sports.

“The wingers committed a few errors which Hippos capitalised on. I think the wingers let us a bit. We need to work on our fielding and back-three communications,” he added.

Buffaloes Aaron Tukie was named man of the match for his endless pressure on the Hippos.

The result means Buffaloes drop a place to 6th as Hippos rise to fifth on the log. Both have accumulated ten points but the Jinja side has a better points difference.
