World 100m champion Oblique Seville and silver medallist Kishane Thompson are the leading contenders among nine nominees for the 2025 National Sportsman of the Year award.

The announcement was made during the official launch of the 65th annual National Sports Awards.

On the women's side, a competitive field of four is vying for the top honour, headlined by World Championship 100m silver medalist Tina Clayton and 200m bronze medalist Shericka Jackson.

The men's shortlist features a wealth of athletic talent. Joining Oblique Seville and Kishane Thompson are World Championship long jump silver medalist Tajay Gayle, and 110m hurdles silver and bronze medalists Orlando Bennett and Tyler Mason.

Reigning World 200m bronze medallist Bryan Levell has also made the cut. World Indoor long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, high jump finalist Raymond Richards, and international practical shooting gold medalist Anthony Johnson complete the list.

Tina Clayton, Shericka Jackson Headline Women’s Nominees

For the Sportswoman of the Year, Tina Clayton and Shericka Jackson are joined by Diamond League 100m hurdles champion Ackera Nugent and international powerboat racer Sarah Misir.

Fans will also have their say through the People’s Choice Award, which features several memorable moments from the past year.

Nominees include Oblique Seville's world title-winning 100m dash, Tina Clayton's silver medal performance, and the impressive 110m hurdles finishes by Bennett and Mason. The women's 4x100m relay team's silver medal run is also in contention.

Other notable performances nominated for the fan vote include Dujon "Whisper" Richards' crucial World Cup qualifying goal against Bermuda, Renaldo Cephas' goal against Trinidad and Tobago, and the derby victory by racehorse I Dream Again at Caymanas Park.

The awards ceremony will also recognise achievements across various other categories, including Runners-up for Sportsman and Sportswoman, National Sports Team of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, the Y.O.U.T.H. Award, Certificates of Merit, the ISSA Schools Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Chairman’s Award.
