Nigeria vs Ghana: Super Eagles 2010 AFCON loss to Black Stars trends ahead of friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are on the social media trends.

The team is trending as they face off against West African rivals the Black Stars of Ghana.

Friday's friendly between Nigeria and Ghana, two of Africa's biggest teams, will take place at Stade de Marrakech.

While the Super Eagles performed admirably to reach the Africa Cup of Nations championship game last month, they ultimately went to the hosts, Ivory Coast.

Nigeria and Ghana are using the game to get ready for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and will use the March friendly to try out as many players.

Ahead of the game, the banter between Nigerian and Ghanaian fans has resumed.

A photo of the last meeting between Nigeria and Ghana at the AFCON has gone viral.

The photo depicts the battle known over the years between the two countries.

The game took place on January 28 2010 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, Luanda in Angola hosts of the 2010 AFCON.

The only goal of the game was scored by Asamoah Gyan in the 21st minute.

Victory over the Super Eagles in the semifinal meant that the Black Stars progressed to the final where they would lose to Egypt.

Ghana also stopped Nigeria from progressing to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and this is the first meeting since then.
