What Aghawo said

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Aghahowa, a veteran of Nigeria’s 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, said Ndidi’s all-action style and tactical discipline would immediately strengthen Manchester United’s midfield ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

“If the interest of Everton and Al Ahly is obvious, Ndidi hopes to join Manchester United. He wants to take a step forward by signing for a big club like Manchester United. It would be an excellent thing for the man I consider to be one of the best African midfielders in recent years. He is powerful, able to press, recover balls and aerate the game through his long diagonals,” Aghahowa said.

Aghahowa emphasised that Ndidi’s Premier League experience, work ethic, and defensive discipline make him a low-risk and high-impact addition to Ruben Amorim’s rebuild at Manchester United.

Ndidi has also remained a regular for the Super Eagles, bringing leadership and poise to Nigeria’s midfield.

“Wilfred is the player the Red Devils need in midfield. He is surprisingly generous and able to repeat efforts and cover a lot of space. He would be a considerable contribution to the Mancunian club if the transfer were to materialise,” Aghahowa added.

Ndidi has been heavily linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, with multiple reports suggesting Manchester United could activate his £9 million release clause following Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international has made over 240 appearances for the Foxes and is widely regarded as one of Africa’s top defensive midfielders.

As transfer speculation continues to heat up, fans will be watching closely to see whether Manchester United make a formal move for the Nigerian star in the coming weeks.
