Mohammed Bajaber: Why Harambee Stars Forward Faces Uncertain Future in Tanzania

Harambee Stars forward Mohammed Bajaber is reportedly staring at exclusion from the squad at Tanzanian giants Simba.

Bajaber joined Simba last July but had to wait until December to make his debut, having been signed while nursing an injury, which he picked when he was still playing for Kenya Police.

The 22-year-old had to endure frustration, watching his new teammates train and then play while he was not able to contribute, and when he was finally handed his debut, it was a memorable one as he scored with his first touch on December 12.

He would drop to the bench for the next two matches before the league took a break and when it resumed this month, Bajaber was handed his first start but lasted just 12 minutes after picking up a thigh injury.

With another spell on the sidelines, Simba are reported to be looking for contingency plans that would leave the Kenyan star facing an uncertain future.

According to reports in Tanzania, Simba are looking to sign another attacking player before the January transfer window shuts with Ivorian Anicet Oura and Inno Jospin from Congo Brazzaville heavily linked to the club.

The dilemma is that Simba have already filled their foreign quota and would need to release one player to create room for another and Bajaber, alongside South African midfielder Neo Maema, are the two names reportedly targeted.

There is a possibility of one of them leaving on loan while Simba are also reportedly exploring the option of dropping Bajaber from the squad for the second half of the season and register the new player to allow him time to fully recover before being reintegrated into the team next season.

Both possibilities are not good for Bajaber whose fitness issues appear to be testing Simba’s patience as there are no guarantees that he would regain his place in the team, especially if whoever takes his place flourishes.

It leaves the former Nairobi City Stars man staring at an early exit from Simba having been signed for a reported Ksh12.9 million from Police less than a year ago.
