In a statement, Mogadishu City Club expressed profound regret for the actions of a few individuals, emphasising that such behaviour does not reflect the values of their club, its players, or the majority of its fan base.

They condemned the act as disrespectful and uncalled for, reiterating their commitment to sportsmanship and mutual respect between nations.

“On behalf of the Mogadishu City Club, we strongly condemn this act and extend our deepest apologies to the Government and People of Kenya. Such behaviour has no place in football or in the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship that this competition represents,” the club said in a statement.

“We fully support any appropriate action by the Kenyan authorities against those involved. We also urge our fans, especially the younger generation (Gen Z), to always respect all nations, their flags, and their people.”

Meanwhile, in their first leg encounter, Kenya Police FC displayed a dominant performance, capitalising on home advantage to establish a significant lead heading into the return leg.

While the match itself was played with competitive spirit, the post-game flag incident unfortunately overshadowed the sporting contest, casting a shadow over what should have been a celebration of continental football. The second leg is scheduled for Sunday, September 28.
