Marcus Smart targets NBA title, to join Lakers after buy out

Marcus Smart spent the latter half of last season with the Washington Wizards before a buy out and becoming a free agent.

The veteran guard will be signing with the Lakers as he agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract.

Despite flying under the radar last season, and being undervalued for much of his career, Marcus Smart is a significant addition for Los Angeles.

Just three seasons ago, he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year he was with the Boston Celtics as they got to the final.

The 31-year-old guard played nine seasons for Boston before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and then briefly joining Washington.

With Deandre Ayton recently joining the Lakers as well, it's clear the team is setting its sights on an NBA title.

According to a report by ESPN, Smart had a conversation with Luka Doncic before deciding to join the Lakers.
