Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been named 2023 Football Writers' Association player of the year after an astronomical first season in England.

Erling Haaland has scored 51 goals in 47 games for Manchester City this season and has been the overwhelming favourite to sweep all of the individual awards up for grabs.

Haland is crowned Footballer of the Year

 First on the list though is the Football Writers' Association award and the Norwegian now bags what will surely be the first of many in a Manchester City shirt.

Haaland received 82 percent of the FWA vote, ahead of Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Record-breaking Haaland

The 22-year-old's goal against West Ham last week took him to 35 goals in the league, earning him the outright record for most goals in a Premier League campaign.

He is also the only Premier League player to score more than 50 goals in all competitions with Dixie Dean's all-time top-flight record of 63 goals in his sights.
