Frenkie de Jong has once again emerged as Manchester United's top transfer target in the summer.
Manchester United revive interest in De Jong
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag made De Jong his No 1 target when he arrived last summer after identifying the midfield as an area of weakness.
De Jong who has a good relationship with Ten Hag, insisted he was happy at Barcelona despite the Catalan club's willingness to sell due to financial constraints.
The Dutchman refused to be sold and has since been a regular in Xavi’s team, making 32 appearances this term.
However, according to The Guardian, Manchester United will return for the midfielder in the summer. It is understood the 25-year-old is not seeking a move at the moment though this could change in the close season.
Ten Hag will also prioritise the addition of a centre-forward in the summer window but he is keen on improving his midfield options to give the attack a stronger platform to thrive.
There is also the need to provide competition for Casemiro and Christian Eriksen and Frenkie de Jong possesses all the qualities required to thrive under Ten Hag.
Erik ten Hag's Man Utd may be too hard to turn down
Manchester United could be a more appealing prospect to De Jong in the summer. Ten Hag has turned things around and the Red Devils just won the Carabao Cup, their first silverware in six years.
As well as competing for the FA Cup, they are huge favourites to win the Europa League, and Champions League football next season looks just about guaranteed.
