Premier League champion Manchester City have reportedly set the price tag for Portuguese right-back Joao Cancelo amid negotiations with Barcelona
Cancelo, 30, was a crucial member of Pep Guardiola’s set-up at City until he fell out with the manager. He has since gone out on loan to Bayern Munich last season, and this season, he was at Barcelona on the same terms.
The Blaugrana are said to be pushing to make the move permanent; they have now received a quotation from the Cityzens, according to reports.
City slap price tag on Cancelo
According to Spanish publication Sport, Manchester City have slapped a €40 million price tag on Cancelo.
Barcelona are said to have begun negotiations with the Premier League side and will struggle to meet said valuation due to their well-publicised financial woes. However, super agent Jorge Mendes is handling the deal and looking for solutions.
A possible option for the Blaugrana would be to sign the former Valencia defender on another season-long loan, but this time with an obligation to buy.
They will, however, have to contend with top clubs from around Europe and even Saudi Arabia, who are said to be monitoring Cancelo's situation.
Cancelo was a main fixture for Xavi Hernandez’s side this season. He played 32 league games, 29 of which were from the start. He scored two goals and provided four assists.
