The Colombian winger has signed a four-year contract with the German champions, ending a successful three-and-a-half-year stint at Anfield.

The move comes after Bayern’s initial offer of £58.6m was turned down by the Reds earlier in July.

A revised bid of £65.5m was accepted over the weekend, with Diaz subsequently granted permission to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms with the Bavarian club.

He was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season clash against AC Milan amid the growing speculation around his future.

“It’s good to be leaving with the feeling of a duty fulfilled, and, most of all, to be leaving a champion,” Diaz shared on Instagram.

“I will never forget Diogo (Jota). We will never forget him. Thank you for everything," he added, paying homage to the recently deceased Liverpool star who died in car crash accident.

A Career of Consistent Impact and Silverware

Luis Diaz celebrates with Liverpool players.

Signed from Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37 million, Diaz quickly became a key figure under then-manager Jurgen Klopp, known for his electric pace, close control, and relentless work ethic.

He made 148 appearances and scored 41 goals for Liverpool, helping the club win four major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.

Diaz enjoyed his most prolific season in 2024/25, notching 17 goals in all competitions and playing a crucial role in Liverpool's league triumph.

His departure marks a major turning point in Liverpool’s rebuild under new head coach Arne Slot, who will now look to newer signings and young talent to fill the void.

With Diaz gone, attention now turns to who will replace him on the left flank.

Cody Gakpo is seen as the most likely immediate successor.

The Dutchman scored 18 goals last season and, while not as dynamic in tight spaces, brings a clinical edge to Liverpool’s attack.

Teen sensation Rio Ngumoha, who started in recent pre-season matches, is also one to watch.

Despite limited senior experience, the soon-to-be 17-year-old has impressed staff with his flair and composure.

Elsewhere, Hugo Ekitike, predominantly a striker, could occasionally be used wide left in a fluid front three, especially if Liverpool land long-time target Alexander Isak.

The club’s record summer signing Florian Wirtz is expected to bring both attacking brilliance and defensive industry to the central areas, having won possession in the final third more times than any Bundesliga player over the past two seasons.
