Liverpool vs Real Madrid: If I score — Arnold gears up for Champions League clash

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a reunion with his former Liverpool teammates soon, as Real Madrid are scheduled to play the Reds in the Champions League.

Speaking ahead of the match, he confirmed that he will not celebrate if he scores against his boyhood club, underlining the bond and respect he still holds for the Premier League champions. 

Arnold announced in May that he would leave Liverpool when his contract expired at the end of the season, ending a 20-year association with the club after 352 senior appearances, 23 goals and multiple trophies. 

Real Madrid moved quickly to secure him: the club agreed terms and paid Liverpool £10 million to register him early so he could join their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, and he was formally presented by Real Madrid in June 2025, having signed a six-year contract. 

He has not fully hit the ground running in Spain, as he has suffered from injuries and is competing for the right-back spot with club legend Dani Carvajal.

With Carvajal’s recent injury, Arnold is expected to be the starting right-back for Real Madrid's Champions League clash against Liverpool next week. 

Hence, in a recent interview, he admitted that he was looking forward to the match and that he will not celebrate if he scores. 

“If I was to score against Liverpool, I wouldn’t celebrate, to be honest,” he told Prime Video Sport, per Fabrizio Romano.
