Kip Keino Classic 2026: Stars to Watch in Nairobi

American Olympic champion Gabby Thomas is a headline attraction as she continues her comeback season. After an injury cut her 2025 campaign short, Gabby Thomas has already secured four victories this year.

Unconventionally, she has started her outdoor season in Africa, with stops in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Gaborone. In Kenya, she is slated to compete in the 100m, the same event she won in Ethiopia last weekend.

Home crowd favourite Lilian Odira will make her season debut in the women's 800m. This marks her first race since her gold medal-winning performance at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

The men's sprints are expected to be a major highlight, featuring Jamaica's Bryan Levell and Kenya's Ferdinand Omanyala. Levell, a world 200m senior bronze medallist, returns to the city where he first competed in a major event at the 2021 World U20 Championships.

He will be a key contender in the 200m. Meanwhile, Omanyala, Africa's fastest man, will look to improve on his 9.98-second performance from last week's Addis Ababa Grand Prix in the 100m.

In the middle-distance events, reigning world and Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will step up to the 1500m. His compatriot Julius Yego, the Tokyo 2020 silver medallist, will lead the field in the men's javelin.

The hammer throw events will feature Canadian powerhouses and Paris 2024 Olympic champions Camryn Rogers and Ethan Katzberg, who continue their pursuit of record-breaking distances in the women's and men's competitions, respectively.
