Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa had a race to remember as she won the Chicago Marathon on Sunday following a dominant run.
Feysa, featuring in her first-ever race in the US city, was untouchable as she ran the final stretch of the race alone and finished without pressure from any of her rivals.
The 2024 Frankfurt Marathon champion won the race in a time of 2:14:56 ahead of Ethiopian compatriot Megertu Alemu, who clocked 2:17: 18 for second place, as Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri completed the podium in 2:18:03.

Feysa Floored More Experienced Runners
It was a great outing for the Ethiopians who took the lead early but as the race wore on, the real contenders started to be revealed.
The top four women were running two by two, with Shauri and Feysa hitting the halfway mark in 67:30, while Alemu and another Ethiopian Ejgayehu Taye kept them in sight at 67:37.
Alemu and Taye came into the race in Chicago with the better resumes, even though it was the latter’s first marathon, but it was Feysa who proved to be the strongest.
Feysa would storm off in the final 10km, leaving her rivals out of sight, and the winning margin told as the second-placed runner arrived almost three minutes later.
Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo won the men's race in a personal best 2:02:23 ahead of Kenyans Amos Kipruto (2:03:54) and Alex Masai (2:04:37).
