Keely Hodgkinson Smashes Record to Claim 800m Gold at World Indoor Championships
Keely Hodgkinson struck a championship record to claim the win in the women’s 800m at the World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland, on Sunday, March 22.
The Olympic 800m champion crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 1:55.30 ahead of her closest challenger, Audrey Werro, who finished second in a national record time of 1:56.64. American Addison Wiley rounded up the podium in a personal best time of 1:58.36.
Keely Hodgkinson Campaign at World Indoor Championships
Keely Hodgkinson started her world indoor campaign with a win in the heats, crossing the finish line in 2:00.32. Valentina Rosamilia finished second in the race in 2:01.15, as Nina Vukovic completed the podium in a time of 2:01.53.
Heading to the semifinal, Keely Hodgkinson also claimed a dominant victory in 1:58.53 as American star Addison Wiley came in second in a personal best time of 1:58.75. Eloisa Coiro completed the podium in a personal best time of 1:59.33.
Meanwhile, Keely Hodgkinson has enjoyed a successful indoor campaign so far, starting with the 800m heats at the Novuna UK Athletics Indoor Championships, where she clocked 1:56.33.
The reigning Olympic 800m champion then claimed top honours at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF, crossing the finish line in 1:54.87, a world record.
Keely Hodgkinson then competed in the 400m at the 4J Studios scottishathletics National Indoor Combined Events Championships, clocking 51.49 ahead of the World Indoor Championships.

In the men’s race, American Cooper Lutkenhaus claimed top honours in the race, crossing the finish line in a time of 1:44.24.
Belgium’s Eliott Crestan finished second in 1:44.38 as Mohamed Attaoui rounded up the podium in a stunning finish, crossing the finish line in 1:44.66.
