The return of key players such as Esther Mutinda and libero Josephine Kataa adds further strength, while Mildred Cherop’s comeback after a stint in the UAE boosts the team’s presence in the middle. However, the squad will be without captain Edith Wisa, who misses out due to personal reasons.

The team will be guided by an experienced technical bench led by Head Coach Japheth Munala, with support from Assistant Coach David Kinga, Technical Director Paul Bitok, Team Manager Marvin Tuikong, Team Doctor Simon Kibe, Strength and Conditioning Coach Esau Otieno, and trainer Eunice Mayo.

The former African champions, who lifted the title in 2006 and 2022, will be eager to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish and reassert their dominance on the continent.

Assistant Coach David Kinga expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, stating that the squad is motivated and ready for the challenge despite the expected level of competition.

“We have had good preparations, and the players are motivated heading into this tournament. The competition will be tough, but we are ready to give our best and fight for a strong finish,” noted Assistant Coach, David Kinga.

Speaking during the team’s flag-off ceremony, KCB Group Director for Marketing and Communication, Rosalind Gichuru, emphasised the importance of the competition in showcasing Kenyan talent on the continental stage.

Tough Competition Ahead in Egypt

This year’s tournament will feature 24 teams from 14 countries, including heavyweights such as defending champions Zamalek SC, Al Ahly SC, and Alexandria SC.

Kenya will be strongly represented by KCB, Kenya Pipeline, and DCI, highlighting the country’s continued influence in African women’s volleyball.

Before heading to Cairo, KCB have also shown solid form locally as they prepare for a Kenya Cup quarterfinal clash against Kenya Defence Forces after the continental assignment.
