KCB Set Up All-Kenyan Semifinal Clash with Kenya Pipeline at African Club Championship
The 2022 African Club Champions KCB Volleyball Club stormed into the semifinals of the 2026 CAVB African Women’s Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt, after a commanding straight-sets victory over Mayo Kano Evolution in the quarterfinals on Monday afternoon.
The bankers delivered another polished and disciplined performance to secure a 3-0 win, posting set scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21. Their victory not only confirmed their place in the last four but also extended an impressive unbeaten run in the tournament, having not dropped a single set so far.
From the opening whistle, KCB controlled the tempo of the match, showcasing strong attacking play, solid blocking, and consistent service pressure that left their opponents struggling to keep pace.
Unbeaten Run Continues
KCB’s journey to the semifinals has been marked by dominance and consistency. They topped Pool D with straight-set victories over Nigeria’s Vipers and Partners, Seychelles’ ARSU Ladies, and Cameroon’s Litto Team Volleyball, finishing the group stage with maximum points.
Their momentum carried into the knockout rounds, where they comfortably saw off Burundi’s GLC in the Round of 16 with another 3-0 win, before dispatching Mayo Kano Evolution in equally convincing fashion in the quarterfinals.
Speaking after the team’s victory, Head Coach Japheth Munala said: “We have remained focused from the first match and the players continue to show great composure and tactical discipline. We are taking one match at a time, but reaching the semifinal without losing a set shows the character and quality of this team. Now the focus shifts to Kenya Pipeline, which will be another big battle.”
All-Kenyan Semifinal Showdown
KCB will now face local rivals Kenya Pipeline Company in a highly anticipated all-Kenyan semifinal clash scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Pipeline booked their spot after defeating DCI 3-1 in their quarterfinal encounter, setting up a familiar rivalry on the continental stage.
The matchup promises to be intense, with both teams well-acquainted with each other’s strengths and tactical approaches.
Team captain Mercy Moim expressed confidence in the squad’s form while acknowledging the challenge ahead:
“We are happy with how the team has performed so far because everyone has stepped up when needed. We respect Kenya Pipeline because we know each other very well. four of their starting six are former KCB players, but we are ready for the challenge. Our target remains the final and ultimately the title.”
The upcoming semifinal not only represents a clash between two of Kenya’s top volleyball sides but also a crucial step toward continental glory.
With both teams aiming for a place in the final, the encounter is expected to deliver high-level competition and showcase the strength of Kenyan volleyball on the African stage.
