'Just like Ten Hag’ — Manchester United legend not excited about Ruben Amorim appointment

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has voiced concerns over Ruben Amorim's potential appointment after Erik ten Hag's underwhelming time in charge.

Scholes believes Thomas Tuchel, now England's manager, is the ideal candidate to take United back to their best days.

"I think Thomas Tuchel was the right one to coach Manchester United," Scholes said on The Overlap.

"He's someone who can manage an elite football club and win big games. He's been there and done it."

Regarding Amorim, Scholes believes the United decision-makers should take their time;

"It feels a bit like Erik ten Hag when he joined Manchester United. He's coming from the Portuguese league, which is a bit better than the Dutch league. What he's done there has been good – he looks charismatic, and he has a bit about him."

However, Scholes wants to see more from Amorim before committing:

"I know he's meant to sign soon, but Sporting play Manchester City next week and Arsenal in three or four weeks.

It might have been better to wait, see how he fares in those games, give him a public interview, and see how he handles the media, see how his team plays."

Meanwhile, Ruud Van Nistelrooy is in charge on an interim basis, starting with tonight's Carabao Cup clash against Leicester.
