Speculation is mounting that Jurgen Klopp could take over as Germany's national team manager after the World Cup, with insiders at Red Bull reportedly concerned they may lose their global head of football.

According to a new report from German outlet Bild, it is an "open secret" within the company that Klopp is not fully satisfied with his current behind-the-scenes role. The position, which he took up in January of last year after leaving Liverpool in 2024, is said to underutilise the interpersonal skills that made him a world-renowned manager.

Concerns have been heightened by the 58-year-old's recent high-profile appearances at events like the Winter Olympics, rather than attending more matches involving Red Bull's portfolio of clubs. This has led some staff to question his long-term commitment.

Adding fuel to the fire, Klopp's agent, Marc Kosicke, recently acknowledged the manager's strong connection to his home country. "Jurgen feels very connected to this country," Kosicke said last month as quoted by Daily Mail. "I don’t think he feels he has to do it at least once. Rather, he feels a sense of obligation, that he couldn’t always say no to the job."

While Klopp has turned down the Germany job in the past, Kosicke's comments suggest the former Liverpool boss may eventually feel compelled to accept the position.

However, a significant obstacle remains: Julian Nagelsmann is under contract as Germany's manager until 2028. The 38-year-old, who took the helm in 2023, guided the team to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Spain.

Despite the rumours, Klopp is contracted with Red Bull until 2029 and has reportedly held informal talks about an extension. He has made no public statements indicating any desire to leave his current role, which he chose to combat the burnout he experienced after 23 years in club management.

When he announced his departure from Liverpool in January 2024, Klopp cited a lack of energy as a key factor. "I am, how can I say it, running out of energy," he explained. "I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."

Upon joining Red Bull, he expressed a desire to shift his focus. "I no longer have to improve the game in individual places, but I want to make football better all over the world," Klopp stated. "No longer prepare a new game every week, but work on the bigger picture."
