Julien Alfred has downplayed the idea of focusing on Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in her sprint battles, explaining that elite competition at the highest level always features multiple challengers capable of winning on any given day.

The Olympic 200m silver medallist noted that success in global championships is not unique to one athlete, pointing out that many sprinters have achieved similar feats and continue to emerge across the field.

She emphasised that each race brings a different set of competitors, making it important to approach every lineup with full attention rather than centring on one individual opponent.

Julien Alfred added that the nature of sprinting means new threats constantly emerge, with athletes regularly stepping up to deliver standout performances, which makes it impossible to narrow her focus to just one name.

“Yeah, that's really what it is. I mean, she's not the first to win a world championship. So many other persons have. And I think that whoever I lined up against is a rival. I mean, I cannot just think of one person because there's always somebody who's coming,” she told Mr Analyst, aka Leighton Levy.

“There's always somebody who's going to show up and, you know, do exceptionally well. I can't just think of one person. I have to think about everybody I line up against. So, I'm really not thinking about one person.”

Julien Alfred added that her mindset is centred on improving herself and executing strong races against the full field, pointing out that success at the highest level requires beating a group of elite sprinters rather than fixating on one opponent.

“I'm thinking about Julien and what Julien can do to be the best possible, but not one. There's not one person. I mean, I think that would be crazy of me to think of like just Melissa when there are so many other competitors who I line up against, like seven other women in the race that I have to think of beating and not just one person, you know? So, I cannot just think about one person ever,” she added.
