The service, held at the Falmouth Seventh-day Adventist Church, served as a powerful reminder of the close bond between Jamaica’s most celebrated athlete and the people of the nation.

“As I entered the church and I shook Usain’s hand and looked him in the eyes, I saw his grief,” Holness said, as quoted by Sports Max.
“But I want to say to you, Usain—the entire nation mourns with you. The entire nation embraces your family and surrounds you with prayers at this difficult time."
The Prime Minister recalled past remarks by Bolt, which underscored the profound influence of his father.

Wellesley Bolt passed away on March 31 after a prolonged illness. Though known to the world primarily as Usain Bolt’s father, he is fondly remembered by many in the community as a kind-hearted and grounded man, respected for his humility and strength of character.
Holness emphasized the far-reaching impact of Wellesley’s legacy, stating, “It is not easy to be a world champion... but it all started in the home.”
He further described Bolt as not only a national hero and global ambassador, but also a treasured son whose pain was now shared by the nation.
