Gor Mahia restored their 10-point cushion at the top of the FKF Premier League table following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Shabana FC at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.

Billed as one of the matches that could test Gor Mahia’s title credentials, Shabana, who sacked coach Peter Okidi early in the week, made them work in the early proceedings although K’Ogalo went ahead first.

Midfielder Jackson Dwang was the man of the match for Gor Mahia as he curled in beautifully for the record champions after 22 minutes. Dwang beat two defenders before getting a shot past the Shabana goalkeeper for his first of the season.

However, it took Shabana just two minutes to restore parity. A mix-up in the Gor Mahia defence allowed Wycliffe Omondi to head home past goalkeeper Gad Mathews.

Dwang Comes Up Trumps for K’Ogalo

Both sides huffed and puffed after this but there was nothing to separate them at the break.

In the second half, Gor Mahia had a number of opportunities with Shariff Musa coming closest with a rasping shot that hit the side netting.

Shabana stayed resolute and thought they would nick a point to end a run of two straight defeats but they would concede late to extend their number of losses to three in a row.

Dwang, who had had an impressive game, lofted in a good ball from a corner and Alpha Onyango, stationed at the back post, headed home cleverly after his decision to stay away from the box paid off handsomely in the 79th minute.

It was a good game for Dwang who ended with a goal and assist as Gor Mahia took their run of games without defeat to 15.

Gor Mahia Leave Leopards Under Pressure

K’Ogalo have now not lost since a 1-0 defeat to AFC Leopards on December 7, 2025 but most importantly, they are 10 points ahead of second-placed Ingwe.

Gor Mahia lead the standings with 56 points from 25 games with Leopards on 46 from 24, although Ingwe can cut the lead to seven if they beat struggling Tusker FC on Sunday.

It is another show of dominance from Gor Mahia who look determined to reclaim their title and it also saw them earn the bragging rights against Shabana in what is known as the Nyanza Derby.

Shabana, meanwhile, drop to fourth place with 40 points from 25 games and effectively out of the title race.
