It’s over! Ghanaian midfielder Partey set to end five-year affair with Gunners
After half a decade of highs, injuries, and near-glory, Thomas Partey's journey at Arsenal appears to be nearing its end.
The Ghanaian midfielder is reportedly set to depart the Emirates this summer, with contract renewal talks having completely stalled as his current deal runs out at the end of June.
Partey bows out as Arsenal eye Zubimendi replacement
Partey’s time in North London has been a tale of promise interrupted by persistent fitness woes. Signed from Atlético Madrid in 2020 for £45 million, he was brought in as the midfield anchor Mikel Arteta could build around.
And while his class and composure on the ball were never in doubt, Partey’s injury troubles often robbed Arsenal of his best qualities during key moments of multiple seasons.
Still, the 30-year-old Ghanaian was a major influence when fit, especially last season, when he made all but three Premier League appearances, helping the Gunners reach the Champions League semi-finals and narrowly miss out on the league title yet again.
Now, with a £51 million move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi reportedly in the works, Arsenal look to be preparing for a Partey-less future.
Partey opens up on family, future, and life beyond London
Despite Arteta expressing a desire to keep him, the club’s inability to reach a new agreement signals an inevitable exit.
Speaking about his future in a recent interview, Partey hinted that family considerations and long-term security are driving his decision.
“You still have to look at all this... we all have a family that needs money. We are not getting younger, the Ghana international said.
Although clearly fond of the club, Partey acknowledged that he would leave the next step to his agent and Arsenal.
