‘It's just ridiculous to me’ - Ex-Man City star blasts Nottingham Forest decision to sack Postecoglou

Postecoglou was dismissed on Saturday, less than half an hour after his side's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea. 

The Australian-Greek manager's tenure lasted a mere 39 days, during which he oversaw just five Premier League matches.

In his eight games across all competitions, Forest failed to secure a single win, recording six losses and two draws. 

Speaking on BBC's Match of the Day, Richards criticised the club's impatience. "In terms of football, five games, 39 days in the Premier League, and you're getting sacked. It's just ridiculous to me," he said. "I don't know where football is going."

"I understand the results haven't been great, but in terms of a manager trying to get his philosophy over... we knew with Nuno it was a defensive-style team, now we know Ange likes to go on the front foot," he explained. 

"We always talk about giving managers time... and for him to get five games in the Premier League..."

Postecoglou's brief spell is the shortest of any permanent manager in Premier League history. 

While Sam Allardyce (Leeds, 2023) and Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace, 2017) also managed four or fewer games, their tenures lasted longer in terms of days or were short-term appointments by design.

Potential candidates to replace Postecoglou at the City Ground reportedly include Roberto Mancini, Sean Dyche and former Olympiacos boss Pedro Martins.
