'It is what it is' -Israel Adesanya reacts to Kamaru Usman's UFC 294 loss to Khamzat Chimaev
A middleweight title opportunity against champion Sean Strickland was guaranteed to the victor of the Khamzat Chimaev vs. Kamaru Usman fight at UFC 294.
It would have been a rematch with Israel Adesanya, whom Strickland had defeated at UFC 293 in October, just one month prior.
Even though Adesanya won't be competing in the Octagon very soon, he has carried on the custom of responding to UFC shows and sharing his thoughts on YouTube.
Adesanya's close friend Alexander Volkanovski—who was in the main attraction and trying to become a double champion and Kamaru Usman the co-headliner—were fighting on the event, UFC 294 made it interesting to the former champion.
Israel Adesanya reacts to Kamaru Usman's loss at UFC 294
Israel Adesanya used his YouTube account to share his live reaction to UFC 294 as usual.
For UFC 294 Adesanya had mentioned supporting Chimaev, but that was back when he was facing Paulo Costa.
Following an unanticipated elbow surgery due to a severe staph infection, the Brazilian player was forced to withdraw.
Former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, who replaced Costa, is also from Nigeria and regards Adesanya as a close friend.
Additionally, Adesanya was supporting his pal. The early tempo of the bout also impressed him.
Adesanya as the fight started said, “They’re not slowing down. Fast pace straight away. Look at this f****ing brother. Let’s go Chechman. Let’s go, let’s go Chechman,”
“That’s, hey, it is what it is. It is what it is.
Following the ruling, Adesanya was confused and seemed taken aback by Chimaev's majority decision victory.
Adesanya's thought is in line with that of a sizable portion of UFC supporters who thought Usman was treated unfairly by the decision.
