‘In God’s time’ - Brazil’s Endrick in no rush to start at Copa America

Endrick is prepared to be patient before becoming first-choice in the Brazil national team.

The Real Madrid-bound teenager is expected to start the Selecao's first Copa America match against Costa Rica as a substitute with Dorival Junior seemingly preferring a starting trio of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Raphinha. 

Endrick, 17, scored a late winner against England in March after coming off the bench, netted against Spain a few days later and influenced a recent pre-Copa America friendly win over Mexico by scoring a late header following a Vini Jr cross. 

Despite his growing influence, the youngster is staying grounded. 

“No one needs to skip steps,” said the forward, speaking to the press on Friday. 

“Everything will happen in its own time. Everything in God’s time – and Dorival’s. He’s a spectacular coach. He’s doing what’s best for the team, not just Endrick, Vinicius Junior or Rodrygo. I think he’s doing the right thing.

“I will do what I can, whether that’s playing or encouraging others,” he said. “I’m trying to help the team spirit off the pitch, trying to create a good atmosphere. And when Dorival puts me on, I’ll fight with all my life.”

Endrick’s move to Real Madrid will be completed after Brazil’s Copa America participation concludes. 

The Selecao face Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia in Group D.
